12 Steps to Strengthen Your Financial Résumé


  1. Email an electronic version (Word preferred, PDF ok) of your most recent résumé, even if it has been several years since it was last updated. If you do not have a recent résumé or do not have an electronic version, other arrangements can be made to get you started.

  2. You will receive a fee quote for for résumé and cover letter. The fee will be guided by the range of rates posted on this site.

  3. You will receive a one page agreement (no fine print), to review, sign and fax.

  4. You will receive a PayPal request for the fee, or you can send a check.

  5. On receipt of payment, and of a recent résumé, usually within 24 hours, you will receive a list of questions based on any projects you've led or been a part of, plus questions based on a careful review of your résumé. Give yourself 1-2 hours to reply to each. There may be follow-up questions afterwards, and we will work together through the drafts of the résumée – but this will be the bulk of the work on your part throughout the process.

  6. You will then be emailed, usually within 48 to 72 hours, a reformatted version of the résumé you provided.

  7. From the day that you email your answers, estimate one business day to one week to receive your new first draft. Usually the résumé will be 80-95% completed on the first draft.

  8. There is no fee for brief, 5 to 15 minute phone conversations, or for step-by-step review of drafts, provided that these are pre-arranged via email.

  9. The cover letter is written on completion of the final draft of the new résumé. The purpose of cover letters is to summarize high points of your accomplishments and career direction, and to make a 'call to action' for direct, follow-up contact.

  10. If you request – you may also receive two slightly different versions of the cover letter, one to send to employers and one for external recruiters.

  11. At times you will be given an opportunity to ask a résumé recipient if (s)he has a preference for receiving the full-length version or the condensed, at-a-glance version. Some recruiters and hiring managers prefer the condensed. Upon request, a companion, condensed version of your completed full-length résumé will be made available to you at no additional fee.

  12. You will also receive upon request and at no additional fee, copies of all finalized documents in text-only format, which may make it easier to submit to online job postings. Final documents in PDF (Acrobat Reader) can also be provided.
